Deniz is a qualified pharmacist and epidemiologist in the AGE (Ageing & long-term conditions, Genetics, & Epidemiology - AGE Research Group > AGE @ Exeter) group in the Department of Clinical & Biomedical Sciences at the University of Exeter. Her primary area of research expertise lies in pharmacogenetics epidemiology. Her doctoral research investigated how genetic and non-genetic factors influence individual responses to cardiovascular medications, aiming to enhance treatment efficacy and effectiveness in large-scale, community-based cohorts.
With a background in pharmacy, she has a solid understanding of pharmacology, prescribing practices, medication data, and drugs. She applies biostatistical techniques to analyse medication-related data, working with datasets linked to genetics as well as primary and secondary care records.
She has experience in applying Mendelian Randomization analysis including polygenic score analysis, conducting genome-wide association studies, and TWIST – A new framework for causal inference within pharmacogenetics research.
Deniz works with a multidisciplinary team, including biostatisticians, geneticists, and clinicians.
